KINER CERAMICS
Born in Paris in 1983, Esther Kiner is a french ceramist that currently lives and works in Basel. Her aim is to create unconventional ceramic interpretations of everyday objects that are both sculptural and utilitarian. Her stoneware pieces are shaped in the body using metal wires, spatulas or electric saws. This intuitive and lively technique, which involves extracting the material, creates a feeling of letting go. Esther is fascinated on the one hand by the simplicity of brutalist architecture, and on the other by the roughness and colours of the great alpine spaces, wild and raw. These two worlds are the driving force behind her work. She concentrates on exploring what can be found in the fragility of nature and the human being, with all their imperfections, inconsistencies and emotions. The sobriety of her objects creates a timeless atmosphere, conveying a sense of serenity and suspending the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
